Energy storage provides network operators and transmission companies with a novel strategy for tackling T&D challenges by acting as “virtual transmission” resources to supplement or even replace traditional poles and wires. Storage as transmission is helping planners redraw the network map with over 3 gigawatts (GW) of capacity poised to increase system efficiency and reliability worldwide, including in countries like Germany and Australia. Despite the grid benefits, faster timelines, and competitive costs compared to traditional transmission infrastructure, this application has yet to gain traction in US markets due to challenges in the regulatory environment.
Join this webinar to hear Fluence’s Kiran Kumaraswamy, VP of Market Applications, and Ray Hohenstein, Director of Market Applications, discuss the use of storage as transmission in international markets. The webinar will review the benefits of storage as virtual transmission, discuss lessons learned internationally, and unpack the challenges faced in US markets in implementing this application as well as recommendations on how to address these issues.
