ESA Testifies in Support of Connecticut’s 1GW Energy Storage Target
ESA testified at the Connecticut General Assembly today in support of SB 952, which will set a 1 GW energy storage target to be achieved by 2030. With its passage, Connecticut would be the 8th state to adopt an energy storage target. SB 952 includes a number of additional policies to ensure achievement of the target, including:
- Sets interim targets of 300 MW by 2024 and 650 MW by 2027.
- Directs the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulation Authority (PURA) to establish programs to deploy energy storage on the distribution system, consistent with and expanding upon its current Straw Proposal.
- Authorizes the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) to issue requests for proposals for standalone and paired energy storage projects, consistent with the goal.
ESA requests one modification to the legislation, which is to require DEEP to issue RFPs for energy storage, rather than only authorize.
