ESA Seeks Industry-Wide Exclusion from Sec. 301 Battery Tariffs
ESA filed a request with the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to not apply tariffs to batteries sourced from China that are intended for stationary energy storage systems. ESA notes that the additional tariffs, which ESA opposed and were enacted by USTR in September 2019 as part of the Section 301 trade case against China, are causing significant business uncertainty, adversely affecting contracted storage projects and causing harm to U.S. companies. ESA also notes the Administration’s high-level support for driving greater storage deployments on the electric grid and identifies specific characteristics to differentiate grid batteries from non-grid batteries.
