CEO Kelly Speakes-Backman’s Statement on Energy Storage Project Law in Maryland
“We commend Gov. Larry Hogan for signing the Energy Storage Pilot Project Act to advance energy storage in Maryland. Thanks to the leadership of State Sen. Brian Feldman, Chair of the Energy & Publilc Utilities Subcommittee of the Finance Committee, Del. Kumar Barve, Chair of the Environment & Transportation Committee, and Del. Marc Korman, Maryland will test regulatory ownership and deployment models to id entify savings and reliability benefits for ratepayers. This law exemplifies the bipartisan collaboration of Maryland policymakers and stakeholders, in coordination with the Public Service Commission (PSC).
“This storage program is an opportunity for regulators and stakeholders to explore the regulatory reforms that can unlock the energy storage market in Maryland. We commend the Public Conference 44 Energy Storage Working Group members at the Maryland PSC who laid the groundwork for this important law. ESA supports these efforts and will continue our work with stakeholders and the Commission to make this program a success. ”
