ESA Commends Clarification to Executive Order 13920 Regarding the Bulk Power System

“Yesterday, U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Brouillette provided additional clarification for the energy storage industry surrounding the May 1 Executive Order 13920,” and said U.S. Energy Storage Association CEO Kelly Speakes-Backman. “The Secretary issued a prohibition order designed to reduce the risks that entities associated with the People’s Republic of China pose to the Nation’s bulk-power system. We are pleased to see that batteries are not included in this, and the impact is only to utilities serving defense facilities from the point of interconnection to the nearest upstream substation. In its order, the Department clearly delineates what would require compliance or changes to the supply chain. This is good news for the industry, good news for clean energy, and good news for the electricity sector.”
