ESA Calls for 1 GW Storage Target by 2030 in Nevada

ESA will submit comments today at the Nevada Commission on draft regulations for the implementation of the state’s storage procurement target (called for in Senate Bill 204 passed into law in 2017). These draft regulations were developed by an informal working group of stakeholders, including ESA. In our comments, ESA voices support for the consensus items in the draft regulations and adds recommendations on non-consensus items including: (1) a statewide cumulative 1 GW energy storage target by 2030, and (2) a minimum requirements by point of interconnection. ESA also provides additional language to enhance the process for a utility to request a deferral or waiver of the target in order to ensure a robust evaluation of energy storage.
