ESA Statement on Gov. Granholm’s Advancement through Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee
ESA applauds the swift, bipartisan action today by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee to report favorably the nomination of former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm to be the next Secretary of Energy. Granholm testified that she will focus on building America’s leadership in energy storage innovation, manufacturing, and deployment. This will create business investments and new jobs across multiple sectors and enable the electrification of vehicles and decarbonization of the power system.
Granholm will be leading the Department of Energy (DOE) at a pivotal moment in time with the expanded authority on storage investments that Congress granted in end-of-year legislation, and with the department’s Energy Storage Grand Challenge roadmap now established. DOE’s work on storage will be critical in the coming years, particularly in complementing the executive actions announced by the White House seeking to increase federal procurement of clean energy and electric vehicles built with American components and jobs. We are enthusiastic to welcome National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy and leading DOE staff to speak on these efforts at the ESA Energy Storage Policy Forum today. We encourage the Senate to quickly confirm Granholm and look forward to working with Congress and the Administration to ensure that DOE maximizes the jobs and decarbonization benefits of its investments in energy storage.
