Li-ion Tamer Group, a developer of a gas detection system designed specifically for lithium-ion batteries, created by Nexceris, introduced plans today for its latest monitoring system. The third generation Li-ion Tamer product will continue to help monitor off-gas events and help prevent thermal runaway occurrences, but also will provide users access to temperature, humidity, air quality and raw gas data.
The U.S. Energy Storage Association (ESA), the national trade association for the American energy storage industry, today issued an expanded vision for energy storage, 100×30: Enabling the Clean Power Transformation. Informed by developments in the energy storage and clean energy markets, and extrapolating upon ESA’s 2017 vision document (35×25: A Vision for Energy Storage), this white paper charts a path for the industry to deploy 100 GW of new storage across the United States in the next decade.
Recognizing that COVID-19 has had a dramatic impact on North American and world economies, Battery Council International (BCI) will host a webinar September 9 to provide a mid-year reforecast on the pandemic’s impact on lead batteries in the industrial and transportation battery markets.
Today Powin Energy Corporation (Powin), a global leader in the design and manufacture of safe, scalable, battery energy storage solutions for IPPs and utilities, announced its Stack2301product completed the UL9540A test with no flame or propagation from cell to cell. In doing so, Powin has demonstrated that their product meets the industry’s highest standards for safety and fire prevention and its installations will not require expensive protective devices like fire-proof barriers or large separations between Stacks. This achievement follows on the heels of the positive UL9540A results from Powin’s Stack225 tests performed earlier this year.
Able Grid Energy Solutions (Able Grid), a leading developer of battery energy storage projects throughout the U.S., along with its development and operating partners MAP® Energy (MAP®) and Astral Electricity (Astral), today announced that full notice to proceed has been issued on the Chisholm Grid battery energy storage system located in Fort Worth, Texas. Chisholm Grid will have an initial rated capacity of 100 megawatts (MWac) and is scheduled to begin commercial operations in mid-2021. Mortenson is the balance of plant (BOP) and battery installation contractor for the Chisholm Grid facility, which is Mortenson’s ninth energy storage project.
The New York Power Authority (NYPA) today announced the start of construction on a large-scale, 20 megawatt (MW) energy battery storage project in Northern New York, one of the largest such projects in the nation. The innovative facility, located in Franklin County at the top of the state, will advance progress toward achieving New York’s ambitious target to have 3,000 megawatts of energy storage deployed by 2030 – the equivalent of powering 40 percent of New York’s homes. The project is expected to be in service early next year.
Today sonnen and Wasatch Energy Group demonstrate their firm resolve to continue to lead the energy transition by announcing commitment to deploy a series of residential virtual power plant (VPP) projects in California. The Wasatch California VPP Fleet I and II will outfit some 3,000 residential apartment homes with solar generation and sonnen intelligent battery energy storage. In aggregate, the project is set to become the largest apartment-community-based VPP fleet in the world upon its 2021 completion. The project boasts over 60 MWh of energy storage capacity and over 24 MW of power capacity and will be funded by $130M in capital from Wasatch and external investors.
