CEO Statement on Connecticut Finalizing New 580 MW Energy Storage Program
Today, the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) issued a Final Decision establishing an incentive and compensation program for customer-sited energy storage. Jointly with the Northeast Clean Energy Council (NECEC), ESA has significantly informed the development of the program, including with a proposed program design upon which the program’s 580 MW target was based, as well as comments, interrogatory responses, summary brief, and exceptions filed in the proceeding. A full summary of the Final Decision is available here.ESA Interim CEO Jason Burwen made the following statement on PURA’s Final Order: “Connecticut has vaulted to national leadership for distributed energy storage, which will provide critical resilience and cost savings to the local electricity system. With this Final Order, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority kicks off the Storage Decade in Connecticut, with a first-of-a-kind compensation program planned to deploy 580 MW of storage by 2030. ESA applauds the leadership of Chairman Gillett and looks forward to working with PURA, the Connecticut Green Bank, and others stakeholders on the subsequent development of a parallel program that fully captures the benefits of front-of-the-meter energy storage for reducing costs and supporting state goals for addressing the climate crisis.”
